About Emery Long

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

My husband Justin is from Oxford, Alabama. We met at Air Evac where he used to work as a flight paramedic, also at the base in LaGrange. He was a paramedic and fire fighter for over 10 years before he made a career change last year, and now he’s in pipeline safety. I have a son named Knox and he’s almost 2. He is wide open and full of personality. I also have two step children. Gavin is 9 and loves baseball, football, golf and video games. Allie is 6 and loves all things glitter and sweet. We have the sweetest dog named Bailey.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I am a registered nurse, currently working full time with Air Evac Lifeteam 77 in LaGrange and PRN at Wellstar West Georgia ER. I began my nursing career at West Georgia as a tech in the ER, which is where I realized I wanted to be a flight nurse. Once I finished nursing school, I transitioned to a nurse in the ER at West Georgia. After a couple of years, I transferred to Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center to gain additional trauma nursing experience. At the start of 2020, right before covid, I left the hospital full time and started my dream job as a flight nurse with Air Evac. Air Evac is a EMS helicopter that transports critically ill patients to various types of hospitals for services that aren’t available in our smaller communities. Air evac is located throughout the country and there is actually a base located here in LaGrange. Nursing has been the best job full of exciting, sad, and very humbling times. I really love having the ability to help someone in some of their worst moments. In the future, see myself remaining with both Air Evac and Wellstar because they have been great companies to work for.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

Set yourself a goal, and do whatever it takes to reach it.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

I see myself enjoying watching my family grow and wondering how time goes by so fast. 5 years seems like 5 minutes.

Emery Long & Our Community

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

Taste of Lemon, Karvelas and of course Charlie Joseph’s!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

I have lived here for the majority of my life. My family moved here from South Carolina when I was very little. I got my first job life guarding at Highland Country Club which I did for two summers. I moved to Auburn after high school and returned a few years later and have been working at the hospital ever since.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

Everyone in our community is interesting! There are so many people doing their own unique things that are making LaGrange a special place.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

Sweetland. It was the city pool when I was little and I remember having swimming lessons there and I think of that and how it’s so cool that it’s a amphitheater and event center now. Also, Callaway auditorium. We had dance recitals there every year for Mrs. Jennie’s dance class and the whole building was still in its original state and was the coolest.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

LaGrange has consistently evolved over the years and is continuously changing for the better.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

I would have lunch with my favorite podcast (Crime Junkie) hosts Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat and we would meet at one of the wineries so we could taste wine and eat while they give me my own live version of an episode.

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

Friends! It’s my comfort show. As far as movies, it’s an equal toss up between Father of the Bride (1 and 2) and Home Alone (1 and 2). Can’t watch those enough.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I actually really enjoy jigsaw puzzles, cards and board games.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

Quality, uninterrupted sleep. Working 24 hour shifts will make you realize how nice that is.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

My child

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
