I grew up in Wyoming. Upon Graduation I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and then the East Coast. We lived in Senoia, GA before we moved here to LaGrange, GA just a little over a year ago. We love LaGrange and the people of LaGrange. Everyone has been so welcoming and helpful.

About Norma Bird

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

My husband and I have a blended family of 6 children and 4 grandchildren. There is always someone to pack up and go visit keeping us busy traveling to the various locations they live. They have all recently been coming to visit us more often. We became popular when we bought a home on West Point Lake and bought a boat!

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I have worked in the Legal Industry and the Lumber Industry in Sales. I have served as a Director of Children’s Ministries and absolutely loved it. Now, I own Scoops LaGrange, an Ice Cream & Candy Store on Main Street on the Downtown Square. This is my favorite thing I have ever done. It pulls all of my Skill Set into one focus. I love people and families and get to witness them every day making sweet memories in our store. One of my main goals for our store is for people to feel seen, loved and heard. Our world is hurting and if we can make someone smile it is a victory!

Q: What advice would you give to people?

Love with all your heart. Live each day as if it were your last. Let people know how much they matter and what they mean to you.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

Still owning Scoops but with a full-time Manager so my husband and I can travel more and visit family often.

Norma Bird & Our Community

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

Taste of Lemon, The new Downtown Nutwood Winery, Mare Sol and Venucci.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

We moved to LaGrange, GA just over a year ago in November of 2022 and opened Scoops LaGrange in December 2022

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

It is difficult for me to say. I have met the most interesting people everyday in our store. I try to get out amongst our patrons and get to know them and their stories. We have people come in from all over and each one of them is so special.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

Charlie Joseph’s Downtown

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

I love the Downtown Square. They keep it so beautiful all year-round and the Fountain is breathtaking.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

Dr. David Jeremia from Turning Point Ministries. I have listened to him for years and I always get so much out of his broadcasts. His messages challenge me to lean into God, grow my faith and trust in Him. I would love to sit out on my back porch on a beautiful day and just listen to his thoughts and stories.

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

Remember the Titans. I love this movie because it challenges us to get out of our comfort zone and get to know and love others that are not like us.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I play the voilin and in High School went on a 2 week tour in Europe with my violin in a competition of peers from other countries.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

Our Team Members at Scoops LaGrange. We have an amazing Team made up of High School, College and young 20’s that go above and beyond every day to make our patrons experience in our Store the best that it can possibly be.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

Our Children and Grandchildren. I want to leave a Legacy that they can be proud of.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Comforting, loving and inviting
