About Traviera Sewell

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

My mom is my favorite person. I also have one brother and two sisters, and my nephew and niece.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I was a teacher for seven years. I am currently an Assistant Principal and competition cheer coach. I love that I get to work with kids. I truly believe it’s what God called me to do. In my new role, I enjoy working with students and our amazing staff, providing them with the support they need.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

Be Kind! I truly believe the world would be a better place if people were kind. “Be the reason someone smiles. Be the reason someone feels loved and believes in the goodness in people.” -Roy Bennett

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

In five to ten years, I still plan to be an Assistant Principal and cheer coach. I also hope to be a better tennis player.

Traviera Sewell & Our Community

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

I eat out a lot. Locally I enjoy Charlie Joseph’s, Karvelas, Wing Today, LongHorn, Pizza Villa, Juanitos, and Banzai. I could also eat Chick Fil A every day!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

I have lived in LaGrange my whole life, minus when I went off to college. Go Dawgs.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

There are so many interesting people in our community. Two interesting people that I’ve are Kane Bradfield and April Ross from BeeTV. These two individuals constantly invest in our community. I love their energy and both of their dedication to kids. You can always find them out in the community doing what they can to make it better. I’ve worked with these individuals on different occasions and it was so rewarding. They are both amazing mentors and I am thankful our community has them.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

Not a business, but I love when I pass West Side Magnet. That building holds a special place in my heart. I attended West Side from 3rd through 8th grade. I had some of my best teachers at West Side, who played a part in me deciding to be an educator myself. It is now a part of LaGrange College, but I am glad to see it still standing and being used for educational purposes.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

One of my favorite things about our community is Junior Service League of LaGrange. I joined this organization a few years ago, and it is one of the best decisions I’ve made. The Junior Service League of LaGrange is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of volunteers.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

I would pick someone local, Mrs. Sonya Brown. She is one of the best mentors God could have ever blessed me with. She is a remarkable educator and has played a major role in my educational career. I am a better educator because of her. I would take her to Pizza Villa because it is one of my faves and she has never been.

For Fun

I love watching medical shows. I have seen it all. Some of my favorites include Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Chicago Med, The Good Doctor, and New Amsterdam.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

My family knows, but most people don’t know I played the violin for six years.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

Tennis. I started playing tennis about a year ago and now I am obsessed. If I could play every day I would.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

My mom inspires me to be better. She has led by example for as long as I can remember. She is the hardest worker I know, with the kindest heart. She is the definition of a true servant leader. She inspires me to be better and has pushed me to be the best version of me I could be.
