About Jason Hernandez

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

My family is at the heart of my life, providing me with unwavering support, inspiration, and love. I am happily married to Simmerly Hernandez, and our journey together began at Lagrange College in the music department. After a year of dating and six months of engagement, we tied the knot in January 2021. Simmerly is not just my wife; she is my absolute best friend, and her presence enriches every aspect of my life. In addition to the wonderful bond I share with Simmerly, I am proud to be the son of Jay and Lisa Hernandez. My father, Jay Hernandez, is a well-established Minister, serving as the director of Freedom Sound Ministries. This ministry holds a special place in my family’s history, as it was originally founded by my grandfather, Frank Gonzales, who is my mother’s father. My mother, Lisa Hernandez, is a seasoned Spanish teacher at Callaway High School, where her dedication and passion impact the lives of many students. Within our family circle, we also have my amazing sister, Regina Hernandez. She’s currently a senior at the University of Georgia, “Go Dawgs!” On the other side of our family tree, my parents-in-law, Todd and Teresa Hardage, serve as huge inspirations in my life. Their support and wisdom have played a significant role in shaping the person I am today, and I am grateful for their presence in our lives.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

My career path has been a dynamic journey, deeply rooted in my passion for music and education. During this time, alongside my father, we founded J&J Studios, our music production business, venturing into the creative world of music production. Later, I became an adjunct professor at LaGrange College, sharing my percussion expertise with college students. After marrying Simmerly, I transitioned to Callaway High School, initially teaching Audio Visual and Film Technology. Within a year and a half, I was promoted to Band Director, a role I currently hold. Looking ahead, I aspire to teach Music Production and Technologies at the university level, a goal perfectly aligned with my lifelong dedication to music and education.
